Exploring Seven centuries of European Art through Masterworks from the Collection of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts — Saturday, May 12th, 2012

The afternoon will feature a unique tour of the outstanding European art collection of the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts with particular focus upon religious subjects, but also occasional rambles into the realm of secular subjects by such masters as Mantegna, Rembrandt, Poussin, Claude, Canaletto, Tiepolo and Gainsborough among others. And a brief sortie into the religious art of New France in the new Bourgie Pavilion of Canadian Art.

About our Guide

Our guide and lecturer will be Dr. Hilliard Goldfarb, a member of our parish. Dr. Hilliard Goldfarb, Associate Chief Curator and Curator of Old Masters, exceptionally, will serve as our personal guide on this tour and then invite us to his nearby apartment for a vin d’honneur and light hors d’oeuvres.

The evening will consist of a dual launch and conversation celebrating the life and work of John Glassco and the release of two new books concerning the author: Brian Busby's:

A Gentleman of Pleasure
and
John Glassco and the Other Montreal,
a posthumous selection of Glassco's poems edited by Carmine Starnino.

There will be surprise guests, book-signings as well as refreshments served.

An Alley in a Monastery

A 5-session study and reflection, on Sundays in Lent, examining the elements of a Rule of Life, helping you to draft and write your own personal rule of life for your spiritual journey.

From Ignatius to Benedict to Francis, rules of life have been crucial to ordering one’s spiritual life. Study the elements of different rules of life and create or adapt one for yourself as we prepare ourselves for the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus.

This year, join us each Sunday for our Lenten Study as we prepare ourselves for Easter.

An Afternoon Sleigh Ride; Evening Prayer in the Country and Dinner in Sutton – Saturday, February 4, 2012

Join us on a snowy, cold winter day in February as we travel to Sutton in the Eastern Townships. Onboard the bus you’ll enjoy a bagged lunch prepared for you while we travel to visit the Mountain View Farm in Sutton and go on a sleigh ride. We’ll warm up with some hot chocolate and visit with the animals on the petting farm before we board the bus again and travel to Canon Linda and Martin Taylor’s home in Sutton for Evening Prayer followed by supper. It will be an afternoon and evening of fellowship as we enjoy the treats of winter in Québec.

Make it a day with friends and family (children welcome) and building community as we have a fun day out of Montreal together! Take in the country scenery as we travel through Québec and see the picturesque landscapes of winter in the Eastern Townships.
